Todd's Story

We relocated to Oregon from Illinois and 2009. Having lived here in the 90's, I knew the area well enough to know what part of the state best suited our needs. We soon opened a head shop after about a year. We added a medical marijuana clinic, with our own doctors office in the back of the store. Our store quickly became a hub in the community. All the growers in the area who needed more patients could leave their information on a bulletin board in the store. On clinic day a new patient could find a reputable grower the same day as their Dr. Visit. If one of our patients reported their grower didn't fulfill their end of their agreement, we were able to remove their information from the bulletin board. I called it "The Self Cleaning Oven." In a town of about 3000 people, we registered as many cardholders as the nearest city with a populated of 100,000 plus. I soon learned cannabis grown in this area was of the highest quality of any I've ever experienced. Here, hidden in the mountains of Oregon and Northern California is a cannabis culture untouched by the rest of the world. Here's an example from my personal experience; Having lived in a rural area outside of our local town for about a year, being a photographer in search of waterfalls and wildlife. I took my boys off the road we live on, about 4 miles past the area I was familiar with. I came to a fork in a road. The road to the right was blacktop and only one lane leading into a small valley. I took the road on the left it was gravel and ran up the side of a mountain. It soon leveled off, running along side of a dashing stream and than to a waterfall. I found a place to pull over take some pictures and let the kids explore after a few minutes I noticed a small station wagon coming down the mountain from other side of the bridge. It was driven by a rather large Gentleman who pulled up beside me. He was a very friendly fella who explained to me that if I had taken the right fork it would've taken me to a nice swimming hole and I should check it out. Well the nice man was correct it was a beautiful swimming hole with a small crowd there enjoying it. He did not however explain to me that it was clothing optional. I thought my 10 year old sons eyes were going to fallout of his head. The next summer a young lady, who was often in my store. Invited me to a private party some where hidden up in the mountains. She told me not to bring anyone else. She explain to me that they don't like people from the valley up their. She gave me a map to find the place. After she left, I quickly realized, this was the road that I met the gentleman who sent me to the swimming hole. Arriving that Saturday, it turned out it was quite a gathering. There was a live band, and a hog roast. I recognize over half the faces in the crowd. They had been repeat visitors to my store. In fact, a couple of them, I had gone way out of my way to help in the past. I recognized one young lady that had stopped in my store and saw several crab traps for sale. She asked how much I wanted for them. I realized she had been in my store before so she was local. I looked out at her old beat up car loaded with children and camping gear. I replied I'm in no any hurry to sell those traps why don't you just take them to the coast this weekend and bring them back when you're done? I could tell it just made her day. Monday morning when I opened up my store, there were 3 crab traps leaning up against the front door. It seemed that some of my good deeds had gained me some acceptance with people that aren't that easily impressed. I had happened onto a part of California that California has no roads into. In fact it would take over an hour on Oregon roads for California highway patrol to reach this rural community. It seems the nice man in the small car was turning me around in a nice way before I got into trouble, going where I wasn't welcome. These folks don't have electricity, phones, mailboxes or law enforcement and seem to be doing fine with out .This opened the door for me to learn an awful lot about growing and breeding cannabis. Over the last nine years I have traded clones and seed stock with some of the best growers in the world. The strains grown in this area for the last 70 years are both mold resistance and early to flower. Characteristics that are important in this region because we're located at the very top of the Emerald triangle adjacent to the redwood national forest and temperate rain forest. I've had the opportunity to cross some these heirloom strains with some of the newer and more popular strains to achieve some unique terpene profiles. For example, We crossed, Maui with Girl Scout Cookies, and Northern Lights crossed with Blackberry Kush. Just to name a few. With 19 never before seems strains and 44 of the best old school strains like Panama Red, Amnesia, White Widow, Super Skunk, Northern Lights and Moroccan Hash plant just to name a few.
